About the Company

Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI) was established in 1974 as a specialized division of Coal Mines Authority Limited (CMAL) following the nationalization of India’s coal sector. After CMAL was integrated into Coal India Limited (CIL) in 1975, CMPDI became a wholly owned subsidiary of CIL, the world’s largest coal-producing company. Headquartered in Ranchi, CMPDI is a Schedule-B Public Sector Undertaking and has been recognized as a Mini Ratna Category-I company since June 2019. The organization is certified under ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and ISO 37001, highlighting its focus on quality management, information security, and ethical business practices. CMPDI offers consultancy and technical support services across the mining value chain, including mineral exploration, mine planning, infrastructure engineering, environmental management, and systems implementation. While its core expertise lies in coal and mineral resource development, the company also serves clients in related sectors in India and overseas. In addition to its commercial operations, CMPDI plays an important strategic role for the Ministry of Coal, acting as a nodal agency for research & development, policy support, and sector-level initiatives. Through its network of seven Regional Institutes, exploration camps, and field offices across India, the company supports resource planning, mine development, and infrastructure planning for the country’s energy sector. CMPDI holds a key position in India’s mining ecosystem as both a consultancy-led enterprise and a strategic technical partner contributing to the development of the coal and mineral industries.
