Sensex, Nifty open cautiously today; IT stocks bleed as crude, yields bite
AI Summary
The recent steep decline in the Nifty 50 and the broader market reflects growing investor anxiety over rising US bond yields and high crude oil prices, which could lead to tighter monetary policy. Retail investors should be cautious, as the pressure from foreign institutional selling suggests that volatility may persist in the near term. Additionally, the proposed caps on insurance commissions could further impact financial stocks, making it essential for investors to closely monitor sector-specific developments.
Markets opened on a cautious note Friday morning, a day after the Nifty 50 suffered its steepest single-session fall since July 8, closing at 23,063.10, down 383.70 points or 1.64 per cent. The Sensex ended the previous session at 73,580.54. Early Friday trade showed marginal recovery, with the Sensex opening at 73,525.92 and quoting at 73,671.44, up 90.90 points or 0.12 per cent, while the Nifty opened at 23,035.00 and was trading at 23,067.45, up just 4.35 points or 0.02 per cent, as of 9.20 am.
The session's top gainers on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Finserv (₹1,775.10, +0.73 per cent), Shriram Finance (₹996.30, +0.64 per cent), Power Grid (₹268.05, +0.62 per cent), Bajaj Auto (₹11,275.00, +0.60 per cent), and Axis Bank (₹1,193.00, +0.55 per cent).
