Rosatom in talks with Adani Group, RIL, NTPC for nuclear power push in India

AI Summary

The engagement of Rosatom with major Indian corporations marks a significant shift in India's nuclear energy landscape, particularly with the SHANTI Act encouraging private sector involvement. This could lead to accelerated growth in nuclear capacity, which is essential for meeting India's increasing energy demands and reducing reliance on coal. Investors should monitor how this collaboration unfolds, as it may present opportunities in companies involved in nuclear technology and infrastructure, especially those aligned with the government's localization initiatives.

Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy corporation Rosatom is in talks with some of India’s biggest corporate and government-owned power companies, including Adani Group, Reliance, Jindal and NTPC. The company seeks to explore participation in India’s rapidly expanding nuclear power programme, Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General for Corporate Development and International Business at Rosatom, told businessline.

The development follows India opening its nuclear power sector to wider private participation through the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Act, 2025, and seeks to increase nuclear capacity from the current 8.78 gigawatt (GW) to 100 GW by 2047.
